Let's say you are White and a 1.d4 player
By playing 1.d4 you allow the Nimzo Indian Defense
This is where Black swings his bishop over
And pins the White Knight to the King
This pin is possible because moving the d-pawn forward….
Opens up this diagonal for Black’s bishop
It may better to play the English Opening instead...
Since you can develop your Knight without being exposed to this pin
And if opponent puts his Bishop elsewhere...
